In-situ

…Being in place

“In-Situ, being in place” is a group exhibition that will be on view from April 25th to May 24th at El Zaguán Gallery in Santa Fe.

"Being in Place" encompasses more than just a physical location; it represents a state of existence. As a group, we explore what it means to feel and create a sense of belonging in our communities, our homes, our studios, and within the larger world around us.

For my contribution to the show, I created a series of portraits showing my closest friends in their most intimate spaces. My intention for this project was to create portraits of young women in my close community that reflect their specific definitions of Home. The process was all about having genuine conversations with my friends around the concept of homebuilding while placing myself as an observer in their most personal spaces. I wanted to know what Home feels like to each of them and how they curate spaces to evoke that feeling. I photographed four of my best friends in their family homes, in the landscapes of their youth, and surrounded by objects they cherish. I then transferred the photos to fabric and quilted the images together, using thread to highlight the rich sensory landscapes they invited me into.
